After an amazing season working with Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates , Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson, I’m thrilled to announce that Lady Gaga will be on the new season of American Horror Story. Very exciting!
Also excited to begin my new VOICE GYM – Five new songs for your audition book in five sessions. The GYM begins on March 11th.. And ends on April 8th.. There are only two slots left.. Hope to see you..
It’s also been a blast working with James Maslow and Alex Russell on Beauty & the Beast film.. Two great, very talented guys.. more updates on my new musical SING! in the next week or two.
Best to All!
My dear friend and client got rave reviews in Washington, D.C. in her pre- Broadway run in GIGI at the Kennedy Center. We had a great time working on this score and here’s just one of her rave reviews… from VARIETY:
Paul Harris, Variety: Performances on the whole are sturdy. Hudgens delivers a solid performance in a challenging role that requires a transition from impetuous brat to mature young woman. A strong singer, Hudgens nails both her vocal and dancing duties, with the former especially showcased in Act One’s spunky “The Parisians.”
Bravo, V! On to Broadway you go!
Writing a new song for our musical SING! with two of the most gifted women I’ve ever known, Brenda Russell & Franne Golde was a magical experience.. And the result , is a song that is as moving as any I’ve ever co-written..
I’m also thrilled about my dear friend and client Vanessa Hudgens.. She is starring in and as GIGI at the Kennedy Center and began previews last Friday, to a standing ovation! I predict Broadway will fall in love with her as I have been for years. Bravo, V!
Also happy to announce my new Master Class which will begin February 2nd. Please email me at Bobgarrett5@gmail.com and I’ll contact you with all the details.
And don’t miss the Season Finale of American Horror Story. You’ll love the song Jessica Lange and I worked on for this special episode!
Off to a great 2015 and Happy New Year to you all!
It was so lovely of Sarah Paulson to have spoken so kindly of me in the Hollywood Reporter after our work together on Fiona Apple’s CRIMINAL for AMERICAN HORROR STORY: Freak Show. Here’ s what she had to say:
“I am not doing any more musical numbers this season. Of all of the things I’ve done on American Horror Story, that might be one of the most horrifying for me personally. I’m not a singer. I’ve been told by many members of my family for many years that I’m not. So, when Ryan said I was going to do this, I was so petrified. And the good news is that Jessica has an excellent vocal teacher. She can put out an album at this point with all the songs that she’s done, not just on American Horror Story, but in movies, too. This guy named Bob Garrett who’s an incredible music teacher, he really specializes in helping actors who don’t sing, sing. He came to New Orleans and was working with Jessica and was working with me every day. He charted — he literally was writing things down with little bubbles or dots ascending or descending depending on where the notes were supposed to go. He stood with me in the recording booth. I worked my ass off. It was the scariest thing, and I’ve done a lot of shit on this show! It’s very vulnerable to sing — especially if you’ve been told you can’t do it! The last thing you want is to do it on national television, let alone have it released on iTunes. The thought of it kept me up at night!”
Thank you, Sarah.
I also just came back from New Orleans working with Jessica Lange on the last musical number of the season for the finale. It’s pretty spectacular!
We also did a table read of our new musical “SING!” and it was a revelatory two hours starring Brett Rybeck, Steven Goode, Aynsley Bubbico, Glynis LeFiore, Rustin Cole Sailors, Daniel Bellomy, Maria Cina, Keri Safran, Jamison Tingle, Josh Casaubon et al . I”m very grateful to this amazing cast for their talent and feedback. Onward!
Happy Holidays to all!
I am so thrilled that the song Jessica Lange and I worked on for American Horror Story, as of Friday, is no. 1 in the iTunes Soundtrack charts, higher than recent hits like Let It Go from Frozen. The song is even in the Top 50 of the overall iTunes chart. I loved working on this Lana Del Rey cover and its so exciting to see that so many are loving it as well.
Please watch my work with Jessica Lange on last week’s premiere of American Horror Story and stay tuned for Jessica singing a Lana Del Rey song next Wednesday October 15th at 10 P.M. ON FX. This is THE season and stay tuned for more musical numbers by Jessica et al.

Hello everyone: I had a truly memorable time in New Orleans working on three new songs for American Horror Story, Season Four with Jessica Lange. I couldn’t be more excited about traveling to New Orleans for the week of Aug 5- 12th to work with the inimitable and brilliant Jessica Lange on Season Four of American Horror Story. This will be our tenth collaboration together and as always, it will be an exciting process.
The Summer Workshop Industry Showcase was beyond my expectations as performed showstoppingly by all fourteen participants.
I’m now in negotiations for a film and a TV special that I’ve created and look forward to both of these musical projects. Announcements forthcoming.
I hope you’re all having a great summer.
I had a fantastic week working with the brilliant Jessica Lange on our third project together, WILD OATS, a new feature co-satrring Shirley MacLaine. It is to be directed by Andy Tenant and is a hysterically funny female buddy movie that takes place in the Canary Islands. Jessica sings a Gershwin tune in a bar, to a special someone. It’s sexy and delicious.
My new summer workshops are coming up fast and I’m booking them now!
