I’m excited to announce a CREATING THE ROLE WORKSHOP in L. A.  beginning Oct 29th, Monday — 7-10 PM

It’s a four week exploration of what you do one you get the job –  “rehearsal process through opening night”:  How you create  a character, his/her emotional journey and a memorable performance… on your own. These four weeks will proved you with the tools that apply directly to you and how to be independently creative.  November 19th is the showcase of scenes and songs for casting directors, agents and managers.  Please email bobgarrett5@gmail.com for further information and registration.

A new musical I have written the book for will have its first presntation in Beverly Hills on November 1. My fellow composers include my partner , the incomparable Franne Golde, Marsha Malamet, Richard Kerr and many others.  Cast to be announced shortly and the musical is being produced by the legendary Steve Binder.  I’m thrilled we are creating an original musical, not a film adaptation – moving, funny and current with an important message about the world we live in.  New details upcoming in October..

I’m thrilled to be teaching in Australia this coming week.  First Sydney and an exciting visit with the incomparable Judy Davis (“Me and My Shadws: Life with Judy Garland”)  and then off to Perth to teach five workshops with the warmest and most talented  of students.  Looking forward more than I can say to an adventure of a lifetime!

I’m thrilled that Chan Tatum’s again knocked the box office socks off with MAGIC MIKE!  Also thrilled to be working with the amazing Jessica Lange again on AMERICAN HORROR STORY… Yes, she’ll be singing in an upcoming fall episode in what promises to be a SHOCKING new season.

My students also seem to be on a roll: getting callbacks and jobs in Book Of Mormon, Newsies, The Producers at the Hollywood Bowl and Broadway’s Matilda, opening this Spring. …  and don’t miss Will Thomas on So You Think You Can Dance… and wait til you hear him sing!!

Also great congrats to Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Travis Wall, and Ms Loretta Devine for their Emmy nominations.  After an amazing, sold out workshop in Toronto, I’m days away from announcing dates for Los Angeles, Vancouver and Australia workshops… I’m loving this summer!

Thanks to Toronto for their warmth, generosity and inspiring talent. It was thrilling to be SOLD OUT and to work with  such great people – and great talents. The weekend Master Class is so exciting and rewarding from my side and they told me from theirs as well.  How moving to hear the words: “Life altering”.  And before we finished the weekend, there were inquiries about returning to Toronto and from Vancouver.  I’m so looking forward to those upcoming events… dates to be scheduled shortly… “Oh, Canada..”

It’s also been a spectacular journey working with the brilliantly talented Mary McCormack… a great actress, great singer great wit, great person.  Her next triumph I predict will be on Broadway… !

New york was quite something as well: ONCE is the best musical since Billy Eliot… funny, moving, romantic, sexy and artistically exquisite. Bravo to cast and creators!    I also loved Linda Lavin in the LYONS,  Peter and the Starcatcher which is Godspell and Nicholas Nickelby combined.  And Bravo to Chris Gatelli and jeremy Jordan for their work on NEWSIES… and lastly,  ONE MAN TWO GUVNORS, the funniest play I have ever seen.

It’s a great summer for four of all time favorite people I’ve worked with.  GREAT Congrats to Drew ( our work in “Grey Gardens”) on her engagement to Will. So happy for her.  And very much looking forward to seeing my pal, Judy Davis (our work in “Me and My Shadows; Life With Judy Garland) in Woody Allen’s new film “When in Rome.”   Also looking forward to  Vanessa Hudgens’ (my work with her in “RENT”)  three new films and loving working with her on new contemp  material. And, of course the always wonderful and brilliant  Jessica Lange (our work in “Grey Gardens”) who is now filming and starring in one of the great roles from literature, Madame Laurent in “Therese Racquin” .  I’m so proud of and love my girls!
