WILSON-PHILLIPS, KATY PERRY and PERTH!

My girls Carnie, Wendy and Chynna are fiercely back… with their new album, DEDICATED, a collection of their parents songs, a new TV reality show, HOLDING ON, and  the huge resurgence of their music as a result of BRIDESMAIDS.  When we first started working together, I admired them  for so many reasons, including their insistence on bringing harmony back to pop music. They truly are among my favorite people I’ve ever worked with and tremendously gifted… and kind.

I loved that Katy Perry finally revealed this week that she had been offered the film, THE HELP but had to turn it down because of her tour date conflicts.  I loved coaching her on her reading for that film  and I have every confidence that she will emerge as a strong actress sometime soon.

I’ve also enjoyed my week with the thirty singers from Perth. Very much looking forward tomorrow to their auditions for GLEE et al. in the presentation I’ve coached them  on. They’re fantastically talented with the best of work ethics.

More exciting news to follow later in the week.

Three of my favorite all time students are tearing up TV and live concerts.  Amber Stevens (GREEK) and Erich Bergen (JERSEY BOYS)  have been cast in the leads of the pilot JOEY DAKOTA, a musical time travel series for the CW network.  And James Maslow is TV’s hottest heartthrob in Nickelodeon’s BIG TIME RUSH, in the band of the same name. Congrats all!

“SCRUPLES” ABC PILOT

Happy to report that I filmed a pilot this week  – a redux of the ABC MIniseries… appearing with Mimi Rogers. It was as always, very exciting to work with the amazing Michael Suczy, who I worked with on GREY GARDENS and THE VOW.

I’m also happy to report my work on a new Musical for Broadway, called SERENDIPITY. I’ve written the book and many of the lyrics for the songs.. with Brenda Russell, Franne Golde, Simone Porter, Marsha Malamet et al.

Off to New York in April to meet with Michael Douglas on the biopic of LIBERACE for HBO…  More news to follow!

“THE VOW” IS A WOW!

I’m so thrilled to report that Michael Suczy’s  film “THE VOW” that we filmed last year, has broken all box office records.

It was a blast to coach Channing Tatum on this film and of course, to work with Michael again after GREY GARDENS.

Here are the results:  “The Vow” brought in a whopping $11.6 million on Valentine’s Day.

Tuesday’s box office numbers have made “The Vow” the best midweek Valentine’s Day gross in history;

We’ll have word on two new exciting hush hush projects by month’s end. Stay tuned… and Happy Oscars!

As we are soon to enter the second half of 2011, I must say, it’s been a truly exciting half a year: beginning with my work with the very gifted, smart, inspiring and lovely Katy Perry… followed by a highly rewarding time working on American Idol with those amazing kids. Kudos of course to the amazing Michael Orland whose musical gifts never cease to amaze. I have also loved working with Michael writing the opening song for Erich Bergen’s new concert. Next up was Michael Suczy’s (“Grey Gardens”) latest directorial venture, “The Vow”. Coaching Channing Tatum for this new film was one of the coolest gigs ever. Chan has a fantastic work ethic – so talented and so much fun to hang and work with. This beautiful film will be released on Valentine’s Day 2012. Soon after, I began work with Cybill Shepherd on her new one woman show… We’re collaborating on the script — I’m directing and coaching her on the songs. She is a masterful singer – ready to stun the world with her gifts. Next up, are two Broadway musicals I’m co-writing, a new film with a prominent star and a variety TV series I conceived. It’s all hush hush but watch here for details. Until next time, keep singing like there’s nobody listening.

Bob Garrett Wraps “The Vow”

with Jenna and Channing Tatum - “The Vow” setI’ve just returned from Toronto from the filming of Michael Suczy’s,  “The Vow”.  The film stars Rachel McAdams, Jessica Lange and Channing Tatum, who I vocal coached for the film.

Tomorrow begins Week Two of a New Musical Theatre Workshop I’m teaching which will have an industry showcase on March 28th.

Plans are also in motion for a  workshop production of the new Hall and Oates musical, “You Make My Dreams Come True” this summer at the Trinity Rep company in Providence.

Jessica Lange Wins EMMY Award

Hearing my name mentioned by Jessica for my work with her on “GREY GARDENS” was a once in a lifetime thrill.
